We’ve been wanting to try Buds in Salt Lake City, Utah for about a year now. It’s a vegan sandwich restaurant in a little brick building downtown. We were so excited when we found out there was a plant-based food sandwich shop in Salt Lake City, but we kept forgetting to go. We finally did it though!

We went there with Adam’s sister and we each tried a different sandwich. I tried the Fresh Veggie, Adam got the Barbacoa Sandwich, and his sister got the Cheesesteak.

The Fresh Veggie can come on either a sourdough hoagie roll or sliced organic whole wheat bread. I love sourdough bread and don’t have it often, so I chose to go with that. It also had cucumber, tomato, red bell pepper, guacamole, carrots, spring greens, alfalfa sprouts, and a balsamic vinaigrette. This sandwich costs $6.50.

I really enjoyed my sandwich and ate the whole thing! The bread is not the softest, but I still liked it. The balsamic vinaigrette was so good and added a lot of flavor to the sandwich. I have already been craving this and can’t wait to get it again.

Adam’s Barbacoa Sandwich also came on the sourdough hoagie, then it had jackfruit, black beans, chipotle BBQ sauce, shredded cabbage, guacamole, and ginger sour cream. This sandwich costs $6.75. You also have the option to have it wrapped in a tortilla and served as a Barbacoa Burrito.
Adam wasn’t a huge fan of the jackfruit itself, but he loved the chipotle BBQ sauce that the jackfruit and black beans are cooked in. He said next time he might get this again or he’ll get the Fresh Veggie that I had.

Adam’s sister’s Cheesesteak had peppered soy steak, bell peppers, grilled onions, and a cheese sauce served on the sourdough hoagie. This sandwich costs $6.50. You can also make it into a pizzasteak with marinara sauce and olives for 50 cents more.
The soy steak had a ton of pepper and she didn’t like the cheese sauce. Hopefully we can still get her to go again with us and try something else on the menu.
Bud’s menu also has salads, sides, and desserts.
I think you get a lot of food at a good price. I hate spending a lot on food and not being full, but my sandwich kept my pregnant body full for hours! That’s something that can be hard to do while pregnant with twins.
Bud’s only has outdoor picnic tables for seating. They do not have any indoor seating. I recommend taking your sandwich to go if the weather is snowy or rainy.
Bud’s has been open in SLC since 2012 and they love to serve plant based versions of classic sandwiches with a twist. They recommend that you try their zucchini chocolate chip cookie for dessert, so we did. It was really good! Thankfully, you don’t taste the zucchini, but you can see some little shavings of it. We loved how soft the cookie was.

The restaurant is located at 509 East 300 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84111. They are open Monday-Saturday 11am-5pm. They are closed on Sundays.
