Utah is one of my favorite places in the world. Good thing I live here, right? Anyone who visits Utah falls in love with it, but a lot of people come here for vacation and then dream about when they can come back.
Have you ever thought about moving to the place in your dreams? I think you should! If Utah is that place, then keep reading along because I have 5 reasons to move to Utah for you:
1. Beautiful outdoor scenery

If I had to ask 10 people what they knew about Utah, I would probably get “national parks and skiing” as 9/10 of the answers. Why? Because Utah is insanely beautiful. From Zion National Park to Arches National Park, and more, Utah is home to five National parks, so if you are an outdoor explorer, you are going to LOVE the outdoor opportunities here.
Don’t worry: it’s not always cold here, either. Although Utah is known for amazing skiing, the weather is actually very nice most of the year! And, in the winter, it’s typically not that gross wet snow that the South experiences – and we definitely do not get ice storms that make it hard to travel to work in, so you can rest easy there.

2. Low crime rate
Utah is one of the safest places in the entire United States – seriously! Look it up and you are sure to find that Utah has a high level of safety and a very low crime rate.
Violent crimes are about 36% lower than the National average and in 2016, Utah was ranked the 9th safest state in the US. This is a huge benefit to anyone living in Utah!
3. Taxes that are easy to understand
One not-so-fun thing in life are taxes. I would say that most people agree with that! However, when they are easy to understand, it makes things much easier, and Utah has taxes that are easier to understand compared to a lot of other places in the US.
According to Market Apts, “Depending on where you’re coming from, Utah’s tax system may not be that pleasing. That being said, their taxes are straight forward and easy to understand, which is always a plus! For starters, Utah is a flat-tax state, which means the income tax is 5% across the board.
What that means is that whether you make $20,000 or $200,000, 5% of your yearly earnings will go towards state-run services and programs. The cost of homeownership may be high, but Utah’s property taxes are low. There are no estate taxes whatsoever, so there’s no need to worry about additional costs coming in from any inherited property.
Utah’s sales taxes, coming in at about 6.94%, aren’t far off from the national average. Based solely on taxes, Utah may not be the most retirement-friendly place. They do tax Social Security benefits and withdrawals from retirement accounts.
However, they’re certainly not the only state to do this, and their rates aren’t exceptionally bad. On the bright side, all those taxes will go towards state programs like those great highways and public transportation we mentioned earlier!”
4. Home prices
Right now, it’s hard to find affordable living in many places across the US. I wouldn’t say that Utah is inexpensive, by any means. However, compared to a lot of places (Atlanta, NYC, California, etc.) I think that home prices in Utah are pretty affordable.
Home values have risen close to 30% over the past year and the median home value is just under $550,000 as of March 2022. The great news? The return of investment (ROI) is there – especially in the short-term right now.
5. You will be able to find a job

When moving to a new place, you are more than likely going to need a job to pay for that new house, unless you are retired! If you are job hunting, you will be pleasantly surprised by Utah’s job market!
It’s typically easier to find work there compared to other states and it’s routinely at the top (or at least near the top) of the list when it comes to the lowest unemployment rates – all throughout the country!
Utah is an amazing place to live. Anyone who lives here is very lucky! If you decide to move to Utah, you’ll definitely want movers that are experienced in this area. Movin’ is a great option!
They do residential moving and Salt Lake City commercial moving, as well, so they can help with any and all of your needs. With their customer-focused approach and affordable pricing, they can make the big transition much easier for you.
