I can’t even believe that my twin babies, Milo and Violet, just turned one! I have boy girl twins, so for their birthday party we wanted to have a theme that works for both genders. We had a few fun ideas, but decided to go with under the sea for their first birthday party.

We got almost all of their party decorations from Oriental Trading. They have tons of party decorations for so many themes.

We decorated a few parts of our dining room and kitchen area. The part I loved the most was the table setup.

For the table area we used a blue tablecloth with waves on it. We had our beautiful cake in the middle (more details on that below), then around the cake we had party hats, plates, cups, napkins, and a printable with birthday words on it.

narwhal paper lanterns

Above the table we hung narwhal paper lanterns that are pink, mint, and purple. Just below those was a banner I made that had pictures of my twins from each month since birth. I love how the photo banner made it all a little more personalized.

The narwhal lanterns had to be together when we got them. They were pretty easy to do though. You pop open the lantern and put a metal wiring in it to keep it open. You need to roll up the narwhal horns. Then you’ll use little stickers to attach the narwhal horn, fins, and tails to the lanterns.

They don’t stick super well, so if you’re having problems with them, you could use glue dots or a hot glue gun instead.

You can shop the narwhal paper lanterns here.

mermaid plates

These are the decorations that were on our table:

  • Narwhal Party Tablecloth
  • Mermaid Sparkle Paper Cups
  • Under The Sea Paper Cups
  • Shell Dessert Plates
  • Mermaid Sparkle Dinner Plates
  • Under The Sea Dinner Plates
  • Narwhal Dinner Plates
  • Under The Sea Napkins

In the middle of the table we had Milo and Violet’s birthday cake. Since I’m vegan I had to find a baker in Utah who could do a vegan birthday cake. I want to eat the cake too! It was hard to find someone who could make a fully vegan cake and do the amount of decorations that I wanted.

I found someone though! Her name is Madison and her company is Treats To Die For. Take a look at her Instagram here if you’re interested in ordering.

We had a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. The cake tasted amazing! I loved all of the decorations and details on it. It had mermaid tails, little narwhals with rosy cheeks, dolphins, starfish, and more. It was so perfect!

mermaid party hats

We also had 2 different party hats for our guests to wear! We had narwhal cone party hats that look like narwhal horns and party hats with mermaid tails on top. The mermaid party hats are sparkly and come in purple, pink, and green.

multi color balloon arch

The other area we decorated was in our dining room. We made a balloon arch and had Milo and Violet’s high chairs underneath. Their high chairs are the Antilop high chairs from Ikea.

We got the balloon garland kit from Oriental Trading. It came with pink balloons, blue balloons, purple balloons, and turquoise balloons. The kit also has a balloon pump, glue dots, and a balloon decorating strip.

You need to put it all together yourself and it doesn’t come with instructions. I’ve never made one before, but after a quick YouTube search I learned how to make it.

This video will help you learn how to use the balloon strip. Afterwards, you can use the glue dots to add a few extra balloons to fill in gaps and hide the strip if it’s showing at all.

You can find the pastel balloon garland kit we used here. I loved how it brought so much color and you can’t have a birthday party without balloons!

under the sea theme letter board

On our windowsill we put a narwhal horn and mermaid party hat with a letter board. The letter board says “Milo and Violet are o-fish-ally one!”

narwhal party game

We played this narwhal party game where you stick the horn on the narwhal. We had so much fun playing it! Sadly, I can’t find it on Oriental Trading’s website anymore.

The last decoration I did was made these print ups with all of this info about my babies at the age of one. I wanted to do this so that we can always remember what my twins were like at this age.

It has their weight, height, favorite foods, number of teeth, things they love, favorite toys, words they can say, and things they can do. I made these using my Canva Pro account.

I got Milo and Violet matching outfits, but in different colors. They’re the sleeveless rompers from Kyte Baby. Violet is wearing terracotta and Milo is wearing matcha. They’re so soft and the colors are so pretty. You can shop them here.

Violet’s bow is from Quinn and June Bows. I love matching her bow to Milo’s outfit! You can find their shop here and read our review of them here.

under the sea party invitation ideas

I made their under the sea birthday party invites using Canva Pro. I found a template, then added a few things to it, like the mermaid and narwhal. Then I personalized the text. I loved how these turned out!

After designing it, I downloaded the image as a jpeg and had them printed through Walmart.

We had such a fun time celebrating Milo and Violet at their 1st birthday party!
