The Best Vegan Sugar Cookies Ever

Here you'll find our favorite vegan sugar cookie recipe that doesn't require a lot of ingredients and melts in your mouth.

For the cookies:

  • 1 cup vegan butter (I use Smart Balance)
  • 1 ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 flax egg (1 Tbsp flaxseed meal and 2 ½ Tbsp water)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 2 ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda

For the frosting:

  • ½ cup vegan butter
  • 3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp almond milk (I use Almond Breeze Original)
  • Food coloring (Optional)


For the cookies:

  • Combine butter, flax egg, vanilla and almond extract.
  • Add sugar, flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda.
  • Mix well
  • Refrigerate cookie dough to chill.
  • Roll out dough and cut into shapes.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 7 minutes.

For the frosting:

  • Cream butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.
  • Add almond milk and food coloring.


  1. I recommend keeping the frosted cookies in the fridge since the frosting is melty.
  2. If you like your cookies a little more done, bake for 9-10 minutes instead of 7 minutes.
  3. For the flax egg, let the flaxseed meal absorb the water for a few minutes before adding it to the cookie dough mixture.
